FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS WORSHIP LIKE AT TRINITY CHURCH?

We have a fairly orthodox style of worship. We meet for about an hour, during which the congregation engages in light responsive readings,  singing (of both modern and classic songs) and group prayer. Pastor Bryson's sermon usually lasts between 20-25 minutes and we celebrate Holy Communion once a month, usually on the first Sunday. An offering is also taken, often to benefit groups outside the church.

WHAT DO I WEAR FOR CHURCH?

Come as you are! Wear low-key comfortable clothes and know you’ll be welcome no matter what.

WHERE DO I GO WHEN I GET THERE?

Parking is available on west and north sides of the building. Special visitor spots are on designated by white signs. Additional parking may be found at the Safeway across Cleveland Avenue, or along 8th Street itself. Our main entrance in on the south side of the building, closest to 8th street. You may also enter the church through the main east doors. Greeters are available at the Sunday morning service to answer your questions and help direct you to the sanctuary and Sunday School rooms. An elevator is available for those with mobility issues.

WHAT DO I AFTER I ARRIVE?

At our Sunday morning gathering, an usher will hand you a weekly bulletin and a guest gift bag.  Please let them know if you have special seating needs such as a wheelchair or hearing aid. Please complete the attendance form inside so we know you stopped by! Otherwise, feel free to visit and get to know our congregation before the service begins. We hope you enjoy our church community and look forward to seeing you soon!

DO YOU HAVE WIFI?

Yes! We have wifi that is accessible during worship

WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES OR MY KIDS ARE NOISY?

We love kids at Trinity Church and that means that we love their wiggling too.  They are more than welcome in worship, but if you would like, we have a clean, bright Cry Room upstairs behind the sanctuary.  We also have a clean, staffed nursery for kiddos ages 0-4. It is located lower level. There are two safe sanctuary trained adults (the program the United Methodist Church uses to help train and certify people who work with Children and Vulnerable Adults) present in the nursery at all times. We ask for you to sign your children in, if there is an issue, we can text you so we don't have to interrupt worship. Otherwise, we offer a fantastic and popular Children’s Sermon and Sunday School program during worship.  There are also crayons and pictures for kids to color in the sanctuary. Essentially, there are many options for your children to be a part of the life of Trinity Church!

CAN I TAKE COMMUNION IF I AM NOT A MEMBER?

Holy Communion (a.k.a. the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper) is served once a month at the 10am gathering. We believe that as Christ’s sacrifice was made for all, his table is open to anyone wishing a deeper connection with his grace and church.  We generally receive communion by intinction, which means you’ll dip a small piece of bread into the chalice (we use unfermented grape juice rather than wine to be inclusive of kids and folks with an aversion to alcohol. Gluten free bread is available as well. We also use hand sanitizer as to not spread germs).

WHAT DO I DO IF I'VE NOT BEEN BAPTIZED OR IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?

No worries, you are welcome no matter what. We do hope that you would feel God moving in your heart and feel led to become a full part of our faith community. If that time ever comes, or if you want to know more, talk with Pastor Bryson!  He is a church nerd and gets overly excited about such conversations. We would love to welcome you to Christ's faith family!

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

Methodists believe that God created all things and loves creation very much.  We believe God was incarnate and revealed uniquely through Jesus Christ, who continues to be active in our lives through the Holy Spirit.  We believe we are saved through faith in Christ, which motivates us to pursue holiness of heart and life, individually and within our community.

We claim the Bible as our primary authority. It is the greatest story in all the universe and all of human history. Yet, we believe in interpreting for our time and context. Specifically, we view it using the other three lenses of the “Wesleyan Quadrilateral” (tradition, reason and experience), which help us affirm its narrative or translate it for our world today. Finally, we believe diversity is a good thing and that we can learn from one another.  In essential matters of faith we strive for unity, in matters of opinion we extend liberty, and in everything we endeavor to love as God loved us.
